Simple. Imagine where you want to end. And then work backwards.
Those steps are your career map.
For example, let’s say you want to win a Nobel Prize in Literature by 2044. In no certain order you will probably have to:
- Produce an enormous body of work. Of international flair.
- Find a publisher.
- Study previous Nobel Prize winners.
That can’t begin until you write your first book. But it just can’t be any kind of book. It has to have global implications. Universal themes. A wide readership.
Think long-term. Every decision filtered through that goal. Climbing the corporate ladder in giant brand probably won’t take you in the right direction. In other words, you will have to make some tough decisions.
You might have to sell your jazz club. Suffer through Russian gulags. Campaign against nuclear arms.
Not easy calls to make, but noble as all get out. And all helping you carve out the perfect career.

Interesting points here. You’ve created a fine montage of visual images with just a few words. I like it!
Good to read you, Demian!
Thank you Peter!
I like the list of examples at the end, and the matter of fact way in which you said it. Thanks:) You are so right.
Glad to hear I’m right for a change.
